How to install SQL server (AXTRAXPRO instance) Manually

In some cases, the Automatic installation of SQL Server on the machine might fail due to conflicts or other issues; in those cases, we recommend installing SQL Server manually.
This Article will show you how to install a SQL Server (Express Edition) step by step.  On AxTraxPro, the SQL installer will try to install as the last phase of the installation, so all AxTraxPro components are installed at this phase. 

Alert
If you desire to install the SQL server not as the default Instance and "sa" password, you will have to set AxTraxPro server SQL connection details following the SQL server you installed. 

Warning
The Password mentioned in this article is the default AxTraxPro sQL password and MUST be changed 

SQL Server Installation Step-by-Step: 

Notes
This article points to SQL Server 2022 Express edition installation, but can be used for any other version from 2019 to 2025 

  1.  Download the software from Microsoft at the following link: Download Microsoft® SQL Server® 2022 Express from Official Microsoft Download Center 
    1. Click Download.
  2. Run the installer (SQL2022-SSEI-Expr), right-click the file, and select “Run as Administrator”.
  3. Select Custom installation:

  4. Confirm the Media download Location and click Install:

  5. Wait until the download is completed 

  6. On the "SQL Server Installation Server" screen, select "New SQL Server standalone installation or add feature to an existing installation":
  7. Accept the license terms and privacy statement and click next:
  8. Select if you would like to check for updates and click Next
  9. Disable "Azure Extension for SQL Server" and click Next:

  10. On the Feature Selection screen, ensure that Database Engine Services are enabled and the other options are not, click NEXT:

  11. On the Instance Configuration screen, enter “AXTRAXPRO” without the quotes for the new instance name as shown in Figure 5, clicl NEXT: 

  12. On the Server Configuration screen enter the Account Name to NT Authority\system by typing it as shown the then select NEXT:
  13. On the server configuration screen, click Next:

  14. On the Database Engine Configuration screen, change the Authentication Mode to Mixed Mode and TYPE the following Password in both blanks: Bod33|en17?ha!  and click next:

  15. The installation will start:

  16. If the installation is completed successfully, you will see the following screen showing all of the components installed. Just click CLOSE to exit the installer:


Connecting with AxTraxPro: 

If the Installation is completed successfully with all the default settings, you should reboot the Machine at this point, and AxTraxPro services should connect to the SQL server without any issue. on a case when you used non-default values, you will need to set up the AxTrxPro setting using the following article: How to connect AxTraxPro server to remote or non-default SQL server
